Blog Writing Competition

The first span a truly global architectural community, Sheet 151’s writing competition allows thoughts, ideas and opinions through a unique format...The architectural community is a long-established one. It’s a community that debates, discusses, criticises and exhorts. It’s a community where the exchange of ideas plays an important part in.

Can you write a blog-style article on architecture (a blarticle) that will interest, captivate, provoke or amuse? If you can, the world of architecture needs you to help you lift morale. To be read, recognised and rewarded, simply put your ideas down on a Blog and list them for Sheet 151 Competition with our blog directory.

Overview

To enter Sheet 151 blog competition, all you need to do is:

  • Choose your own architectural subject matter to write about.
  • Write the article - It does not need to be of any particular length.
  • It can be illustrated or not, according to the style and content of your blog.
In this first Sheet 151 blog competition, there are no categories and so it is important to ensure your content is engaging, informative and not too long (unless, of course, you feel confident that you can hold the reader’s attention).
How do I enter?

You will need to create your blog on one of the many free accounts that are available, for example : Blogger
Once your blog is ready you will need to submit your blog to our directory. Please ensure your material is approriate and relevant or you will be disqualified from the competition and your blog listing removed.

More Information and Guidelines

Blogs have been around for a few years now and the style and content has evolved considerably. It is important that you understand and pay heed to what is important in writing blog articles (blarticles).

Basic rules to creating a Blarticle

  • If a blog takes up too much time, you will lose readers.
  • Too much content can mean poor quality content.
  • Well researched and constructed articles will always do better than opinion only.
  • Every word should count.

Perhaps the most important thing to remember about a blog is that you are joining and addressing a community, but remember the number of clicks on your article does not matter if you are reaching your desired community through clear descriptive titles and content. For frequent bloggers, readers remain loyal because there is good content. For this competition, it’s much easier: you only have to create good content once. However, if your blog is too long, lacking in content, poorly researched or constructed, your reader may never get to the end of your fist attempt. Make every word count.

Mechanics

  • Choose your subject area.
  • Research and compose.
  • Submit your article with a clear indication as to who your target audience is.
  • Your article will be posted on Sheet 151 as soon as it has been reviewed – but there will be no room for peer comment on the website.
  • The number of clicks on your blarticle may have some bearing in the final judging but it is not a key factor.

Rules
1. To enter the competition, you must be registered and have written a Blog on external software to supply us with the details and link.
2 You responsible for your blarticles content. If the content is not deemed appropriate you could be disqualified.
3 All entries must be written in English
4 There is no restriction to the number of entries a competitor can submit.
5 Registrations will only be confirmed with the inclusion of a valid operating email address for the applicant.
6 The competition is free to enter and open to anyone aged 18 years and over as of January 2009.
7 Relevant entries must be submitted (and have been listed) within the time schedule for the competition.
8 All entries must be original work created by the registered competitor.
9 To be judged, all submitted entries must be accompanied by registered competitors name and contact details.
10 The judges' decision, in regard to all elements of the competition, is final
